Already lots of great advice in comments!
Rosianna is my assistant, and she is very very very very good at her job, and one of the reasons is that she is never afraid to call anyone ever.
Honestly, if you are starting out in ANY CAREER, the ability to call strangers without fear is one of the most useful skills you can have.
That said, I can’t even call for a pizza without anxiety. I’ll be like, “But what if they don’t want to talk to me?” And Sarah will be like, “It is a pizza delivery company. They are excited to receive calls, as it means they will soon have money. Their business is to receive calls,” And I’ll be like, “I don’t know. I don’t want to bother them.” So yeah. Listen to Rosianna.
Inside the Capitol’s Most Glamorous Party
An exclusive peek at the gala at President Snow’s mansion.
by Velvet Veritas
Everyone in the Capitol knows that an invite to President Snow’s Victory Tour Culmination Party is a precious commodity. (In fact, rumor has it that a band of citizens who were trying to counterfeit the ticket were caught by Peacekeepers.) On the big night, denizens lined the gate of his mansion in the hope of a close-up glance of elite citizens like Haymitch Abernathy, Effie Trinket, Plutarch Heavensbee or Cinna. Some victors chose to enter via Snow’s secret underground tunnel and snubbed the crowd. But Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark took a moment to wave and smile at everyone.
There was plenty to see. The exterior of the mansion’s majestic facade was awash in vibrant rotating color; patterns of light danced along the walls as the fountains’ choreographed streams matched the music in time. It all made the perfect backdrop for the parade on the red carpet. This year, tactile materials like organza, crinoline, tulle and feathers made a huge showing. One guest arrived wearing a couture gown of violet emu feathers that shed bits of candy-colored fluff whenever she twirled for the paparazzi.
When it came to beauty, the makeup was anything but matte and muted. Facial adornments of pearls, crystals and even gold leaf were the evening’s big trend. Many women gleaned inspiration from Katniss Everdeen’s signature braid and showed off elaborate variations on the plait. (Look for Capitol Couture’s beauty story tomorrow on three braids you must know how to execute for fall.)
No photographers were allowed inside to capture the event. But I saw Katniss and Peeta whispering on the dance floor and nibbling off each other’s plates. At one point, Effie had to intervene when an overzealous—and inebriated—fan tried to dominate their attention. The District 12 escort— decked out in frothy tiers of lavender tulle —charmed sponsors while Haymitch looked on and smirked.
Right at midnight, a Technicolor starburst appeared in the sky as a fireworks show started. For some, the extraordinary pyrotechnics proved to be a great distraction for more hijinx. What did Plutarch Heavensbee show Katniss, as they danced? Did Portia and Cinna come up with a honeymoon wardrobe for the young engaged couple from District 12? Expect a full report as CC brings you the best party coverage of this Victory Tour grand finale event.
